The Silver Sneakers Yoga Demonstration provided by the Indian Valley YMCA was very well attended.
More than 300 people were in attendance at Peter Becker Community’s Health & Wellness Fair where an extra large dose of healthy ideas was on the menu. Guests were surprised to learn they could be “Eating like (as healthy as) a Greek” by making a few healthy substitutions in their recipes like olive oil, nuts, fish, fruit, veggies and whole grains. They also got to taste a few Greek foods prepared by our chefs.
At the fair, guests could collect a multitude of giveaways and talk shop with more than 30 lifestyle and health providers. Free health screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure, spine health, vision and hearing were also part of the event. Guests could also get a massage. Those who where hungry could attend one of the Quick & Healthy Cooking Demos (the recipes can be found below) or head to the Seasons’ Café where the days offerings were both healthy and delicious.
The Indian Valley YMCA offered a demonstration of Silver Sneakers Yoga. The class helps seniors with breathing, balance and flexibility as well as relaxation and fall prevention.
The Health & Wellness Fair was offered as a public service to encourage each person to take an active role in his or her health: thinking about what they can do to make healthy decisions – eating lots of fruits and vegetables and incorporating physical activity and health prevention into their daily routines.
