How CCRCs Help Seniors do Things Their Own Way – for Life

Jun 29, 2021

By the time you’ve reached retirement age, you’ve lived a lot of life. You’re ready to enjoy your golden years to the fullest and would like to remain as healthy, active and autonomous as possible. We all know that getting older means we may have health issues, may slow down or may even need a little extra assistance to do the things we normally do. However, that doesn’t mean you should have to give up your autonomy. In fact, this reason – independence – is why so many seniors choose to move into a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC.

“While many seniors, especially the older generation, may think that moving to a senior living community means giving up their autonomy and way of life, the opposite is actually true,” says Barbara A. Keller, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Peter Becker Community.

Barb says that a CCRC’s ultimate goal is to help aging adults stay as healthy, engaged and independent as possible. “Focusing on overall health and wellness at every age and providing an environment where seniors can continue to grow and explore safely provides peace of mind to them and their family members while also ensuring a better quality of life now and in the future.”

Providing Care for a Lifetime

At its heart, a CCRC like Peter Becker Community is a community that provides care for life. Whether you’re able to completely live day to day on your own, or require extensive care such as Skilled Nursing or Memory Care, you’ll have a home on campus. At Peter Becker Community, we offer the following levels of care to provide whole-person, holistic, well-rounded care for our residents that helps them remain as autonomous as possible, no matter what their health needs may be.

Residential Living.

When our spectrum of activities, amenities, dining options and services is combined with maintenance-free living, the result is more time enjoying the lifestyle and less time worrying about the details of life. Seniors who require minimal assistance from Peter Becker enjoy the benefits of maintenance-free living with a private home that’s completely theirs. Residents do not have to deal with home maintenance, housekeeping and other chores. Instead, they’re able to be truly on their own, free of tedious responsibilities, which gives them the opportunity to enjoy their retirement to the fullest, whether they want to explore the world, learn a new skill or quietly enjoy their spare time.

Personal Care.

As we age, sometimes we require a little extra help in order to remain do the things we enjoy doing. At Peter Becker Community, we’re proud to provide person-centered Personal Care that allows for dignified support when needed so residents can continue to do the things they love and enjoy. As a CCRC, there’s also a focus on wellness, so we include many opportunities for fitness and physical activity, as well as a huge focus on healthy eating. We provide three meals a day for residents, all prepared fresh and tailored to different dietary needs, nutritional requirements and preferential tastes. We also offer many different activities that stimulate the mind and encourage growth, which all result in a much healthier you – and a much more independent you.

 Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Sometimes, even the most independent of us need additional assistance following an accident, illness or surgery. Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation at Peter Becker Community allows for highly professional health care in a homelike environment. Our focus is on returning an individual back to the highest level of functioning, so we provide as much or as little assistance as needed. We offer a variety of therapies as well as 24/7 Skilled Nursing to help residents live their best quality of life possible.

Memory Care.

People living with cognitive issues like Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia deserve the same opportunity for autonomy as everyone else. Memory Care at Peter Becker Community is administered in a safe, secure environment with around-the-clock care and specialized programming that is designed to help residents live a life that’s as self-directed as possible. While an individual’s abilities decline due to the progression of dementia, our compassionate and highly trained team continue to respect the person within and provide opportunities to remain engaged, happy and fulfilled.

Other Ways CCRCs Help Seniors Remain Independent

Social connections.

Staying social helps boost cognitive function, reduces stress and depression, and helps seniors remain curious and engaged with the world around them. Moving into a CCRC means that you or a loved one are surrounded by others in the same stage of life who are also looking for ways to remain socially active.

A maintenance-free lifestyle.
CCRCs take care of everything for residents, from home maintenance to utility payments to grocery shopping and so much more. Not having to manage all those tedious (and potentially hazardous tasks) mean that seniors have a lot easier lifestyle – which translates into a lifestyle of doing what you want to do.

A wellness-focused lifestyle.

One of the best ways to age well and remain as independent as possible is by taking care of our minds, bodies and souls. CCRCs provide a lifestyle focused on whole-person wellness, giving seniors the opportunity to do everything necessary to remain engaged and autonomous. From fitness classes to delicious dining to engaging activities and events and so much more, there are so many ways to remain healthy.

Peace of mind.

Ultimately, a CCRC provides peace of mind – which is priceless when it comes to living life to the fullest. Seniors and their loved ones will feel comfortable and happy knowing that care is available no matter how or if health needs change. Having the opportunity to get the care and assistance needed to live as independently as possible? That’s a priceless feeling … and everything you’d expect from a CCRC.
